Basic
Personal Amount:
The
Basic Personal Amount is one of the elements included in calculating
your non-refundable tax credits. Individuals with taxable income
up to this amount will not pay income tax.
The federal
Basic Personal Amount will increase from $8,929 to $9,600 for
the 2007 and 2008 tax years, to be followed by an additional increase
to $10,100 for the 2009 tax year.
Spousal Amount:
This
is the amount an individual can claim for a dependant spouse or
in the case of a single parent how much can be claimed for a dependant
child.
The maximum
Spouse or Common-Law Partner Amount and Amount for an Eligible
Dependant will also increase from $8,929 to $9,600 for the 2007
and 2008 tax years, to be followed by an additional increase to
$10,100 for the 2009 tax year.
